According to the federal environment minister, Sussan Ley, up to 30% of the koalas in the region have been killed as their habitat \u201chas been destroyed\u201d, especially with bush fires. Their struggle mainly consists in the fact that, differently than kangaroos, who can jump fast and high, koalas are slow and in times of imminent danger, such as a bushfire, the only thing they can do is to climb higher their eucalyptus trees.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, eucalyptus trees, packed with oil, burn at a very high intensity, sometimes even exploding.<\/p>\n<p>WWF Australia is deeply engaging in this cause, thus pushing the government to engage in implementing laws as to stop excessive tree-clearing. Other than being a political issue causing this, climate change has had a lot of influence.<\/p>\n<p>As the director of the Fire Centre Research Hub at the University of Tasmania believes, January and February will be far worse as temperatures constantly continue to rise and drought aggravates.<\/p>\n<p>Simple things we can do to preserve our planet:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Reduce Plastic Waste<br \/>\n\u2022 Pick plastic up if you see it on the ground<br \/>\n\u2022 Reduce diary and meat consumption<br \/>\n\u2022 Donate<br \/>\n\u2022 Try not to waste water<br \/>\n\u2022 Properly recycle<br \/>\n\u2022 Avoid to eat heavy industrialized products<br \/>\n\u2022 Try to walk more or to use means of transport that do not pollute (ex: bicycle)<br \/>\n\u2022 Encourage others to put an effort too<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In New South Wales, Koalas could be considered extinct species as early as 2050, we can\u2019t let this happen.
